SENIOR CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY CONTINUES TO SERVE COMMUNITY

Members of the Sr. Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (SCPAAA) received information from the Strategic Services Bureau on MPD’s new Citizen Volunteer Corps, an auxiliary program designed to utilize the expertise of members of the community who are interested in assisting with the daily operations of the police department. The seniors also heard from representatives from Human Resources, Forensics and Fingerprint Analysis Branch, as well as Community Outreach on descriptions of other volunteer opportunities around the department. Members of the SCPAAA have completed, at least, ten days of training in public safety, emergency preparedness and community service through a joint program by the DC Office on Aging MPD. They operate on the principle that, while they may be retired, they are not tired, and would love the opportunity to continue to make significant contributions within their communities.
