October
is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic
Violence Awareness Month. One in 4 women and one in 13 men will experience
domestic violence in their lifetime. Domestic violence disproportionately
affects women; however, it affects people of all ages and both sexes. On October
20th, the Office of Violence Against Women in The U.S.
Department of Justice will host an event from 10:00-11:00AM at the Great Hall
in the Main Justice Office, 950 Pennsylvania NW. Among their guests will
be William Kellibrew, a District resident who experienced domestic violence in
his lifetime. This is an excellent opportunity for residents to learn
about not only the issues, but how to identify abuse and help victims deal with
it. Please RSVP to Tia Farmer tia.farmer@usdoj.gov .
