OPERATE MINIBIKES RESPONSIBLY

RESIDENTS REMINDED TO OPERATE MINIBIKES AND
OTHER SMALL VEHICLES RESPONSIBLY
Like cars and trucks, motorcycles, motorized bicycles, Segways, and mopeds must be
operated safely on city streets. Minibikes, ATVs, and dirt bikes are designed for off-road
use and may not be driven on city streets or sidewalks.
It is illegal to ride or operate a minibike, dirt bike or All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on
the District’s streets or sidewalks. It is okay to ride bicycles, mopeds, motorized bicycles,
Segways, and motorcycles on the street, but not on city sidewalks. Non-motorized bicycles
may be ridden on the sidewalk in neighborhoods outside the central business district.
No matter what or where you ride, obey traffic and safety laws and yield to pedestrians.
And don’t forget to wear a helmet for your own protection!

Really? You wouldn't know that by all the minibikes and dirtbikes that ride up and down the 500 and 600 blocks of K Street NE and the 900 blocks of 5th, 6th and 7th. Also, on the 900 block of 6th Street, one would never know that it is illegal to park a motorcycle ON the sidewalk, or that parking an untagged, unregistered and uninsured trailer on the street without a parking sticker is also illegal. I've called the Citywide Call Center and the Police so many times on these matters - and it never seems to make a difference.

Oh, and it was nice to see that the fireworks were "illegal" again this year, as opposed to actually being illegal.
